The Macabre Tarot tempts you to turn away from the light and embrace the dark. While following the traditional tarot structure, the deck takes a look at the darker sides of the cards and implores you to embrace all the spooky things that lurk in the shadows. You will be pushed down the rabbit hole of your own psyche and forced to face your darkest thoughts. This unique deck is based on the traditional Rider Waite system but with suites being Crystals, Cups, Bones and Daggers.
Be warned: this deck is not for the lighthearted or weak-spirited.
How to Use the Macabre Tarot
This tarot deck can be read in infinite ways, so it’s important to explore the many avenues before settling on a specific path.
Although The Macabre Tarot was designed with the traditional 78-card structure in mind some changes have been made, the most noticeable being the removal of the restrictive gender binary. All gendered cards have been renamed; however, they do retain their original meanings. The retitled majors are noted, and the court cards have been renamed as follows:
The Page: Terror
The Knight: Nightmare
The Queen: Haunting
The King: Massacre
About the Author
Samantha West was born and raised in New Jersey, USA. She grew up with a love of art and creating things with her hands. Her mother encouraged her to pursue any avenue that interested her, and that led to her experimenting with all forms of art. She was gifted her first tarot deck when she was 15, and her journey as a witch grew from there. Artwork became interwoven with her spirituality.
As she got older, she received a Master's degree in Interior Architecture, but always felt called back to more free forms of artwork. She found her calling when she began working on her first tarot deck in 2018, and has continued creating and helping others bring their visions to life ever since. She is now a full-time illustrator who teaches a course on tarot deck creation. When she isn't drawing, she can be found knitting or making candles with her husband and baby girl. Sam is the creator of the Macabre Tarot and The Rainbow Moon Tarot.
